Black is Beautiful

He goes out and his mother speaks

Trying to teach him the “black techniques”

“Don’t you put on that hoodie boy”

Living in a world where they destroy

Judged by the color of their skin

When really what matters is what’s within

“Come straight back, don’t you roam”

The only safe place they knew was home

She looks at him with fear in her eyes

Fearing that when her son walks out, he could die

“Baby keep your hands visible all the time”

Surviving in society where black is a crime

“Boy, our black is beautiful, we outshine”

“But people in the world, you will see that they are blind”

“I need you to hang on, I know it is hard to”

Can’t you see what this mother and son have gone through?

The boy speaks, “I love you”

She takes his hand, “One day you will get to do what you want to”

They both knew that their color wasn’t protected

Being black was the reason why so many were subjected

Can’t you see, they are tired

I need to take a stand and not because I am required

But because I will no longer live in a world where there is inequality

There needs to be change, there needs to be change.
