Operating Room

As I am walking towards my sister, I notice something in the Operator’s Room, so I turn into the hallway that leads towards it. I tell Professor X to bring me a soldier because I hurt myself, even though I'm not hurt. I just need to manipulate someone into giving me their uniform.

“Hello s-soldier Charles, would you please help me? My neck is feeling stiff.” As I'm leaning in, I give a gentle blow and a red fiery mist comes out of my mouth directed onto the surface of soldier Charles’s face. Now that he is under my control, I can use him to get the uniform. As I walk back to my sister to tell her the news, I get stopped right by the operators room.

     “Charles?”

“Yes professor X?” I respond in a raspy voice.

“Where are you going?” Professor X asks.

“Nowhere important,” I respond.

I stop the conversation so I can get to my sister faster. She needs to know the important news.

“Haruna?”

“Yes, soldier Charles?”

“It's not Charles, it's Tokyo,”  I reply in a whispered voice.

Before my sister can respond, I start talking again.

“After the battle us and the others need to make an escape. It may seem like we're on this planet for a long time but Professor X just needs us to fight his battles. I saw other citizens from this town being harmed with chemicals that take away our mutant powers and abilities and sadly not all of them made it out alive.”

“Oh my God, no! That's horrible”

“I know, and I'm going to fix this, but I need you to create a distraction so everyone will go to you. Including Professor X.”

“Okay.” she replies.

My sister bolts away before I can even finish another sentence. She heads to the food court where soon, on an ordinary day, we would all be having lunch. I hear the fire alarms when she reaches the room.  I hope it's whatever she did. I hope she stood safe. I hear the intercom turn on.

“Everyone out of the building, I repeat- everyone out of the building.”

I bolt to the Operator's Room where I see bodies laying on the beds. There's a TV behind me and it shows the face, name, age, and gender of four citizens who were killed by these lethal injections that were supposed to save them. Or so we thought. I reach over the table that I had earlier seen Professor X touching. There's a computer with a harddrive in it labeled “Exterminate All Mutants.” I grab the hard drive and my body quakes with fear. I’m afraid that if we hadn’t done the testing and done good we could have ended up like one of these poor people. I push the harddrive towards my chest and I remind myself that my purpose is to save people like me. Mutants like me. Tucking the harddrive into my pocket, I suddenly hear the door opening and the sound of walkie talkies quickly fills the room. I head toward the vent in the corner of the room. I climb up to it and crawl through all the way until I get outside to my sister. I reach out to her.

“I need to show you something when we go back to the room. Just know we need to escape for good.”

“I know,” she replied

“Hey, we’re in this too.”

I look around to see who spoke up, but all I see are three boys by the names of Sochi, Suho, and Asta. I look at them for a brief moment and I realize that they could be a lot of help. After all, they are not only our teammates but we are each other's only family within this community. I think this over as we all rush back to our rooms. Somehow me and my sister are thinking the same thing. How did those boys know what we were doing the whole time? How did they know that there were other kids who were being hurt and killed during these experiments?
