Dear America

by MS

America the great, the land of opportunity,

Or so they say.

I am from aspirations and surpassing limitations and hopeful futures.

My abilities are often underestimated, but

My own expectations are rarely missed.

My gender shouldn’t define me,

I am not weaker or voiceless or worthless.

I am a surprise for the close-minded.

A rude awakening for the old-fashioned,

Like the legends who came before me.

Stereotypes do not haul my progress,

Instead, I master the art of loving and adapting.

Conforming to feeling inferior,

I refuse.

Because one day, America will change.
