Talking to the Moon

by TW

Once upon a time, there were two friends named Dusk and Dawn
They would spend all their time together until one or the other began to yawn
They were always fond of the stars and moon
Looking at the night sky reminded them that they would be together again soon
Dusk was there to ground Dawn whenever she got too caught up in her dreams
Dawn was there to brighten Dusk’s day, to show that life was not as dark as it seems
They were the best duo, as they would balance each other out
Dusk and Dawn were the best of friends of all time, there was no doubt
They grew up together while still being unique individuals
Created a lifetime of memories, traditions, and rituals
One day though, Dawn had to move away
Dawn and Dusk would not be able to see each other to their utter dismay
They would walk to the ends of the Earth to stay together
Though the girls knew that they had to separate, their souls were bonded as if by a tether
So they made a promise to each other to be friends forever
That they will be there to help each other or cheer the other up whenever
Dusk and Dawn always imagined the moon being their safe place
Now they look to it every night to remind them they are connected even through space
Every now and then they write letters to each other in ink of ivory black
Always ending it the same way saying, I love you to the moon and back
