The Colors on my Canvas

by Demetria Glennon

I want to hold hands with you under a beautiful sunset,
Filled with the red of my blood,
Mixed with the blue of my tears,
The pink of my lips
And the orange of my nail polish.
I want to hold you on a bridge over liles,
Painted with the grey of your pants
The green of your eyes
The white of your teeth
And the pink of your tongue.
I want to kiss you under a thousand stars
That glimmer with the gold of my dress
In contrast to the black of your car.
I want to sing to you the way the birds sing
And dance with you in a field of flowers.
I want our love story to be a beautiful painting,
But I perform every stroke
And I have to clean the brushes with blood
sweat
and tears
And my fingers are starting to lock
Around the brush.
And wrist is tired
And I am tired,
And I don’t know if our beautiful love story is worth all this
trouble.
