The Colors on my Canvas
by Demetria Glennon
I want to hold hands with you under a beautiful sunset,
Filled with the red of my blood,Â
Mixed with the blue of my tears,Â
The pink of my lipsÂ
And the orange of my nail polish.
I want to hold you on a bridge over liles,Â
Painted with the grey of your pants
The green of your eyes
The white of your teethÂ
And the pink of your tongue.Â
I want to kiss you under a thousand stars
That glimmer with the gold of my dress
In contrast to the black of your car.Â
I want to sing to you the way the birds sing
And dance with you in a field of flowers.Â
I want our love story to be a beautiful painting,Â
But I perform every strokeÂ
And I have to clean the brushes with bloodÂ
sweatÂ
and tears
And my fingers are starting to lock
Around the brush.Â
And wrist is tiredÂ
And I am tired,Â
And I don’t know if our beautiful love story is worth all thisÂ
trouble.
